I woke up this morning to find out that Twitter has suspended my account. There is a pink banner above my account that says, ” This account is currently suspended and is being investigated due to strange activity. If we have suspended your account mistakenly, please let us know. See Suspended Accounts for more information.”
Now I know I didn’t do anything wrong, so clicked on the Suspended Accounts link. Here’s what it says:

A Twitter account may be suspended for a variety of reasons. The most common of which is automated mass following or other types of spammy behavior.
What is Spam on Twitter?
Commercial or promotional use of Twitter is allowed. There are many companies who create valuable, opt-in relationships with users on Twitter who want to keep up to date with them. However, if you are following other accounts in order to gain attention to your account or links therein, you may be considered spam. If you are creating a series of accounts in order to promote the same thing, you may be considered spam. If you are sending large numbers of @reply messages that are not genuine replies, you may be considered spam. If you are creating updates in order to show up in search results, you may be considered spam. If you are disguising links (i.e., writing about one thing but linking to another), you may be considered spam. If a large number of users have blocked you (relative to those following you), you may be considered spam.
Other Reasons Your Account May Be Suspended
It’s possible your account may be suspended for breaking other Twitter rules. Impersonation, illegal content, or any violation of the Twitter Terms of Service may result in the suspension of your account.
If You’ve Been Suspended Unjustly
Please let us know if you feel your account was suspended and you believe it should not be. We will review your request as soon as possible.”
Well, all of that is as clear as mud, so I clicked on the “let us know” link and got a response that said they’ll look into it.
I’m not happy about this lack of customer service. I’ve read a boatload of complaints about suspensions, and I’m wondering what’s going on.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

@mike mills, Hi Mike. I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through the suspension headaches now. I had found a customer service site for Twitter at http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter, and I posted my problem. I heard back from them a couple of hours later and they said my account had gotten caught in a bunch of spammy sites and that they had reinstated it.
I had tried everything, and this was the only way I found to get a response. I hope this helps. Good luck!

My account was suspended today. I’ve been using Twitter for years to meet new people online, and I’ve found it to be a great tool. But now, instead of catching up with my Twitter friends, I’m browsing the blogosphere, reading other stories similar to mine, and complaining about how crappy it makes me feel not to be able to tweet with them.
I’ve written on my own blog more details of my own Twitter account suspension. I’ll keep that post updated as the situation develops.

I haven’t read all of the posts above me yet, but you make a valid point regarding the lack of ‘customer service’. I’ve been waiting for over 3 days now for a response. In my request I pointed out that it would have been nice if twitter would have let me known that there was a problem with the account when they suspected suspicious use. I know it isn’t a spam issue (on our part) because I run a legitimate business. This forum (and the development of social media)is a perfect example of what happens when customers aren’t happy, or their expectations aren’t managed. I think it’s a shame that we all have to post on here and potentially damage twitters reputation, but everything moves at lightning pace today and the existence of this forum can only give the competition ideas.
I’m really saddened to see that this is still happening so often. Twitter really needs to get its act together or they will not ultimately succeed. Stay strong and keep asking for a response.
The account of the musical instrument dealer, @samashdirect, got suspended just because they were contacting their competitors’ customers and trying to bring them over to their business. Big deal. Maybe they followed too many people, too, not sure. How else do you get followers? Is that so spammy? I don’t think so. This is America, built on capitalism. Win at any cost. It is so humiliating being suspended. Sam Ash should sue for mental anguish.

I just realised I got suspended too.. without a valid reason. Very disappointted in twitter. I shall stick to Facebook from now on.
My account was suspended as well, even though I haven’t logged into the site for a few months. Now when I send a a request, it says right away that it’s solved and closed, and that I do not have any open requests. The last Twitter update I made was in June. Lame.
Yeah, seeing this for the 2nd time in 8 months. The last time, they sent me an email stating that a person had manually suspended my account inaccurately and by accident.
No idea what’s up this time, still not fixed yet.
