Times are tough, and all Internet marketers are looking for ways reduce costs when promoting our websites through article marketing.

If you have the funds, I do suggest you look at a service such as SubmitYourArticle.com to get the maximum exposure for your articles.

But if you’re watching your dollars (and who isn’t these days?) you’ll want to manually submit your articles to these top 5 article directories. They will give you the most exposure you can get at no cost.

  1. EzineArticles.com ─ The king of article directories. They are very picky, and will not accept duplicate content, but stick with it and fix whatever they object to. It is worth it, because their articles are widely distributed, and they are highly respected as a quality directory.
  2. ArticleDashboard.com ─ Very easy submission process and you’ll get your article posted very quickly.
  3. GoArticles.com ─ Another easy submission process. Your article will appear almost immediately.
  4. ArticleAlley.com ─  Easy submission and quick posting.
  5. ArticleCity.com  ─ You don’t even have to register here. Just post your article.

To avoid Google’s duplicate content penalty, make sure you create five versions of your article and post a different version to each of the directories.

And don’t miss my post on the best way I know to write an article.

Good advice – also the better the quality of the article the more likely it is to get re-used. Its worth spending time getting the grammar and information correct as its hard if not impossible to stop an article once it has started to spread around the internet.

Yes, I have tried some of these directories and they are well worth it. I’d also recommend Articles Base. That has a PR of 5, and they usually evaluate your articles pretty quickly. They have a good stats section also, where you can see how people have found your articles through Google.

  3. hi Joan,
I’m a HUGE fan of EzineArticles, and agree with your recommendation for them.
I published one article on GoArticles but then saw that the page title for the article was just “GoArticles.com” and NOT the article title, so I stopped using them. I just clicked through to them now because of this post, and read on their homepage that they’d done a major site upgrade, and sure enough, now the page titles are the article titles. Maybe I’ll give them another chance.
